Minet Botswana Holdings Business Growth Initiatives

Over the past few months, the Minet Botswana team has been working tirelessly on increasing its brand exposure through several initiatives, offering high-level service to customers, and tapping into untapped market solutions. Several events throughout the organization have shown that there is room to achieve greater heights in Botswana, whether it’s in increasing customer knowledge of the product offerings, reaching out to untapped markets, procuring potential clients in mining and energy, as well as growing the risk management and consultancy business. There has been a good stretch toward building and maintaining the Minet brand as a whole.

Mining Coal Forum
On the 27th of October 2022, Minet hosted the Mining and Energy Coal Forum in partnership with AON-Re (SA). The event was held at the Minet Botswana offices and was hosted by our Mining and Energy Director Mr. Tirelo Dikeme. The forum’s opening remarks stated the financial outlook of the coal ecosystem. This 2022-specific forum was not a new initiative and was mainly a follow-up to the same forum conducted in 2019 at Aon in Johannesburg. The forum was held with the aim of assisting clients and prospects with their respective business planning going forth, especially around risk management strategies and ultimately insurance optimization.
The forum provided an update on where the African insurance markets are with regards to “going green”, expectations from the markets on our clients, and how - during these uncertain times - clients can navigate the challenges faced for the betterment of the communities within which they operate.
Some specific topics covered during the forum were:
  • Engineering Underwriters View presented by Tyrelle Correa (Mirabilis Engineering)
  • Renewable Energy- Cradle to the Grave presented by Michaelson Chonyera (Managing Director MB)
  • Re-Insurance Markets Overview presented by Lee Mcallister (Aon- Re South Africa)

Minet Delivers New Product for SMMEs
Minet in partnership with Hollard Insurance Botswana officially signed a new SMME product offering, aimed at reaching small, medium, and micro-enterprise businesses which have long been underserved in the financial services sector. Mr. Gavin Classen (MD Hollard – Short Term) and Mr. Michaelson Chonyera (MD Minet Botswana) signed the agreement and shook hands to finalize the agreement of the business opportunity that this product will bring to both entities and to confirm  the commitment both parties have jointly undertaken to deliver value to small businesses. The new offering is expected to generate an additional income stream for Minet and represents a measure of independence by allowing the Minet team to load policies in-house which will make the process of new business closing and renewals more efficient. The initiative will also benefit Hollard by reducing business processes. All is set to go as the regulator officially approved the plan, and the relevant teams have been trained and empowered to competently load business.
The SMME product offers solutions for business insurance (e.g., assets, buildings, motor vehicles and liabilities, staff welfare, workman’s compensation) as well as personal insurance (residential, motor vehicle, house contents, and personal effects).
We thank the Minet Botswana team for its continuous hard work and drive toward reaching greater heights and success. The effort shown in making us the number one brokering, pension administration, and risk management consulting services provider in Botswana is commended and highly appreciated.
